Energy Intensives Initiative
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Intensives Initiative (EII) partners with manufacturers in energy-intensive sectors to identify practical opportunities for improving energy performance and reducing operating costs. Through hands-on technical assistance, the initiative helps facilities understand their unique challenges, evaluate solutions, and implement measures that enhance efficiency and competitiveness. By strengthening energy management, energy intensive manufacturers can lower costs, build workforce capacity, and improve long-term resilience in a competitive global market.
Support for Energy-Intensive Manufacturers
EII provides customized support to help manufacturers implement energy-saving projects and strengthen operational performance. Participants gain access to assessments, training, and technical guidance from DOE experts–turning identified opportunities into measurable results.
Onsite Energy
EII helps manufacturers deploy onsite energy systems such as combined heat and power (CHP), renewable energy, and alternative fuels. These technologies increase reliability, reduce costs, and improve sustainability while helping families overcome technical and financial barriers to adoption.
Explore OptionsSystem Assessments
Through the initiative, manufacturers can access facility system assessments that identify opportunities to reduce energy, water, and waste. Conducted directly by DOE experts or partner programs, these assessments help facilities optimize system performance, lower costs, and maintain long-term efficiency improvements.
Explore OptionsWorkforce Development
EII strengthens the manufacturing workforce through hands-on training, workshops, and peer-learning opportunities. Participants develop practical skills to identify and implement energy-saving measures, enhance operations and maintenance, and apply best practices that drive sustained performance across energy-intensive systems.
Explore OptionsPartner with DOE to Improve Industrial Efficiency
Manufacturers are invited to collaborate with DOE through the Energy Intensives Initiative to improve operational efficiency and competitiveness. With expert guidance and tailored support, facilities can benchmark performance, implement energy-saving solutions, and share results that advance best practices across U.S. industry.
